Sustainable Lochside Home Named RIBA House of the Year
Designed by Haysom Ward Miller Architects, Lochside House – a strikingly simple cottage in the West Highlands of Scotland has been named the 2018 RIBA House of the Year.
The cottage, which comprises three builldings and a separate studio has been built from locally sourced materials with its aesthetic very much echoing the striking landscape it sits in. “This building has been tailored to its site.” said Kevin McCloud of the undeniably modest, sustainable home “It’s been stitched and woven, seamed in to the tapestry of this place, and it’s so much the better for it”.
The RIBA House of the Year is awarded annually to the best new house designed by an architect in the UK and was this year selected from seven shortlisted properties.
